Had a birthday lunch there today, and was presented with the Menu. Surprisingly, the menu on their website does not represent the menu that was in front of us. Not to mention the exorbitant difference in price on the menu we had in front of us.
Asked if we would like to order some bread i.e. Rosetta for the table, to which we thought that would be a nice way to start the meal. It wasn't visible on the menu, but Im not Italian and couldn't read the Italian menu anyway. We were amazed at the lovely bruschetta that came to our table, 3 large plates with approx.25 pieces total, for 14 diners.
The shock was when the bill was presented to us and the 1st line that I read was for $105.00. I read it further and it was 14 x $7.50 Bread.
Are you kidding me, $105.00 for bread. Hey, I'm all for a nice bruschetta but $105.00. Come on. Fine dining restaurant or downtown eatery Ive never been more amazed by the overcharging of a restaurant before.
The wine was another interesting pricing topic for our table. Now a majority of our table like touring the wineries and restaurants, and always find the price of the wine at the cellar is the price of the wine at the restaurant, as an incentive to eat at the wineries restaurant and enjoy a bottle of their wine. Not here, we find that the wine is a good $5-$10 marked up from just 100m away. Surely it can't be freight costs...
Overall, I would definitely not recommend Avanti at Witchmount to anyone; however, the wine cellar is a different story. Their wines are lovely and a very pleasant selection. (Date of experience: May, 2010 )
