At the top end of my budget but a lovely place and good value for the money spent. Quiet but central location, spacious rooms, nice decor and very clean. Host was very helpful. Unfortunately I stayed at a weekend when breakfast was not available - I guess I'll have to come back to try it :o)

Getting ThereDurham makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding National Parks. Northumbria to the North, the North Yorkshire Moors to the South, and the idyllically unspoilt Weardale and Teesdale to the west are all excellent areas for walking, and easily accessible by either car or public transport. There are regular buses to both Beamish and Bowes Museums and Lindisfarne and the Alnwick Gardens can be reached by train. Albert Street itself is only a five minute walk from the main line railway station with frequent trains to excellent shopping destinations such as Newcastle, the Gateshead Metro Centre, York and Edinburgh.
