The site is in an area of the Lake District that is popular for tourists, but is a bit off the beaten track for most and as such avoids the over population of sight-seers that can occur in the more accessible areas of the Lake District, such as Windermere, Ullswater and Keswick, etc. It really is worth the journey however. We have stayed here a number of times with our children aged 4 and 7 and have had a thoroughly uplifting stay every time. The site itself is set in stunning surroundings, which if you stay on site through the day seem to change constantly. You have to see it to believe it. You will not see anything quite like this anywhere else. Just for this it is well worth a visit. You will see what I mean if you go there. The facilities are very good, modern and clean and there is electric hook-up, advise you book this, a children's play area and a ball game play area. It has a five star Gold award for conservation and has beautiful Oak woodland walks at its doorstep. Two child friendly pubs within walking distance and lovely walks in all directions. The owners are friendly and helpful. In the early morning, take a walk to the end of Wast Water and watch the sun rise over Hellvellyn, once it does, walk back to the campsite and see the suns reflections on the surrounding hills and plan your breakfast and picnic to take in the smallest, deepest, highest and biggest that England has to offer in one day. The smallest (Church, reputedely) is just at the gate of the campsite. It is lovely. Then drive to the easy access route to Helvellyn at the source of Wast Water. Here you have a reasonably challenging climb to get to the top of England's highest peak, whilst viewing England's deepest Lake. On a good day you can also see the smallest church and a pub that has the tallest, that England has to offer. Upon decent, travel to Wassdale Head to the pub, where you can have a drink and witness the Tallest Tales in England. It is in this pub where the competition for the Tallest Tales in England takes place. On our last visit to this site, we took our children aged 3 and 6 and two other children that we were childmining aged 8 and 11. A fantastic time was had by all. Very well worth the effort to get there, very well worth a visit.
