I have found the ultimate backpackers Hostel and it seems to be a well kept secret, well not anymore because I am going to tell everyone I meet (that is if they are cool, chilled and good crew to hang with) about the Foreshore hostel.
Its an awesome old building, very 'old world' with lots of space, timber floorboards and high ceilings. There are several TV rooms with free sat TV and a huge selection of free DVDs and Videos, pool table, table tennis and outside is a huge timber table known as the Table of Knowledge. This seems to be the place to gather and sit for a quite beer and chat to a mixed ages group of adventures from all over the world. It has a wonderfully open and relaxed feeling and people are sharing food and it feels as if we are at a friends BBQ as the fresh fish is shared around to anyone who wants it.
Most nights are pretty quite but I was there for several THEME nights that were all about wild and crazy fancy dress and a huge time was had by all.
The rooms are basic and clean with quality linen and mattresses. I had a room with a double bed, opening through French Timber doors onto a little veranda looking over the ocean and the harbor. Fantasy stuff.
Security is good and the place is locked up at night, there is a huge locked carpark with a high fence so my 4 wheel drive and trailer with all my camping gear was totally secure. Yep I slept well.
This is a must do on your trip north and really a good place to stop and set up with supplies before heading north as the distances are big from here to Darwin.
Make the most of it because I haven't found a place like it.
Happy Days. Oh and by the way it is all run by the owner / manager Ant, who is onsite and is passionate about the place feeling like a home, because it is. Book it.
