We had a family meal here one quiet lunchtime in late summer '06 on the last day of our holiday. This was one of those meals you remember long after the event. We came in with a fractious toddler who threatened the occasion. The owner (Mr Flynn?) instantly calmed him and proceeded to turn the afternoon into one of the highlights of our holiday. He produced a special meal for our son and didn't even charge us for it. The food was delicious (especially the Trifle in a Teacup!), we got a personal talk on the amazing 16th century mural and we chatted with a lovely lady who's been visiting the restaurant for 40 odd years and who travels up from London just to eat there. That's some recommendation. We're going back to Rye next week and the Flushing Inn will be one of the first places we go to this time. Can't wait.
