This is the most inhospitable place I've ever stayed. Upon arrival, the owner shouted from the window that we couldn't park in the car park as it was for motel guests only. When we explained we were in fact motel guests, he harrumphed back indoors without an apology or a greeting. It went downhill from there - the owners, two of them, maintained a watching vigil on our every movement, literally peering through the venetian blinds to keep an eye on us. It was creepy. We learned later that our friends, who we were joining in the family suite that had been booked had been burst in upon a few times during their stay the day before. I couldn't wait to leave. The room was fine - clean and tidy. We were not offered breakfast or any tourist information at all, and were shuttled out of the hotel with indecent haste, however, the owner did reluctantly print out a feedback form for us.
The Palais next door, however, is a fantastic venue, and the reason for our stay. They understood the concept of hospitality, and welcomed us with open arms, with a wonderful meal, excellent wine list and beautiful acoustic entertainment. Thumbs up to The Palais - don't miss this attraction if you are in Daylesford, but come prepared to sleep in the car rather than stay at this "hotel". (Date of experience: Jun, 2011 )
