Hickinbotham Winery

This establishment calls itself a restaurant but is very far from it. We made a large group booking on the basis of tourist brochures which said that the 'restaurant' offered gourmet pizzas and a variety of regional produce. It does not. This establishment has no chef or cook - merely over rushed and amateur staff heating up pre-prepared mush. Of the supposed gourmet pizzas there were two choices and they were certainly not gourmet. Having booked a table for 12 and paid a deposit in advance, we found that many of the items on the menu were not available. Worst of all, one of our party spoke privately to one of the 'wait staff' complaining that the osso bucco was inedible -in response the staff member came to the table and announced loudly 'if you are going to complain then don't eat it' and later on - 'funny how much you ate if the food is no good'. This was said loudly and in a sneering way and was humiliating - it certainly destroyed the atmosphere of my 40th birthday lunch. Given that we were nearly the only people in the restaurant and had spent over $400 on food, this was a completely outrageous response. This place should be removed from all tourist material - it is a very poor representation of the region. My advice is - avoid this place at all costs - staff are rude and the decor shoddy and the food is nothing less than awful. (Date of experience: May, 2010 )
