While Newcastle is a beautiful city staying at the Hotel Ibis was not so beautiful. It is on a main street and the front rooms are terribly noisy. I was so excited when they had a window that opened, but because of the noise it could not be left open. There are lots and lots of destitute buildings around the Ibis. This is not the hotels fault of course but the fights and bottles thrown out windows at night was rather scary and kept us awake (or entertained us!?).
It's a central location but you do need a car as no eateries close by.
The rooms are small and the bathroom is even smaller. Rooms not cleaned until late afternoon, very annoying after going out early and arriving back mid afternoon to find an unmade bed. I wouldn't do this at home. Staff not very helpful either.
In general an O.K hotel, not flash, be wary of what you pay as it's not worth the 150 AUD (average price). I definitely would not stay there again. We stayed 4 nights and found the hotel very unaccommodating.
