I've stayed at Jamieson Cottages a number of times over the years. Jamieson is my favourite country visit - so much scenery, great weather and loads to do. In the last 12 months it has undergone a metamorphosis with new ownership (still in the same family) injecting new life into these roomy, limestone cottages by the Jamieson River. Amazing what new QS beds, some well placed antique furniture and a great colour scheme can have. The kitchen has lots of appliances and pots if you want to stay in... and a dishwasher. The large connara style fireplace was set if I wanted to warm up and in Winter, when I have stayed, this is well lit for a cosy arrival. Split system air-conditioning is available for those Summer nights. For a longer stay, I like the fact that there is a decent sized washing machine in the laundry - yes I did say laundry and drying lines behind the cottages. Bedrooms are reasonable size and my bed had a lovely padded bed head this visit which really added to the morning's tea and paper. The owners say they are continuing to change things around and I can't wait to see how it looks next time I visit. They definitely are the largest holiday cottages I have stayed in - plenty of room for 4 adults or a family. About Jamieson. From a hiker's perspective, you couldn't wish for a prettier and more convenient base to your trekking. The cottages are right next to the Jamieson River and a hinterland of walks mainly medium to hard as most have hills. On hot days you can swim in the river and even float down its usually gentle rapids. We also have had a fish in the cooler months - rods courtesy of the cottage owners. After the wonderful scenery and great high country weather, another great attraction for me is the lovely local Cafe which serves fabulous breakfasts and lunches and I am told the occasional dinner. Certainly has helped to boost the holiday atmosphere in the township. Some tips: get to the milk bar early for a weekend Age; stop off at Mansfield for supplies - the supermarket at the Bulla end of town is fabulous... full of local produce and reasonably priced; AND don't miss out on the Friday night meat tray raffle at the Jamieson Pub!
