Sun Plaza Motel Mackay

My son and I stayed at this hotel for $95 per night. On the front sliding door of the reception room there was a big sign stating that all rooms were smoke free. As I walked through that door I was almost knocked over by the smell of smoke. We were given keys to our first room (by the way...I had asked for 2 keys and because they only had one key available I was given a 'master' key to use!!) The room was disgusting. The carpet was dirty and stained, the fridge had not been wiped out,there was an empty 2 litre bottle of water sitting on the bench. In the bathroom the used soap from the previous person was on the bench and in the shower recess. We pulled back the bedspreads on both beds and my son found strands of hair PLUS biscuit crumbs on the bottom sheet. Both beds had very worn and thread bare linen. We complained about the room and was told that because they had had two new workers start that day the manager had not had time to check the rooms. Needless to say this room had not been touched at all apart from the beds made and new towels (which were once white but now grey) laid on the bed.
Our next room was a family room. This room as marginally bettter...the carpet seemed slightly newer. The linen was just the same as the previous room, however, the sheets on my sons bed had what we think were urine stains and one of the pillow slips also had some kind of stains on it. We used the spare towels to cover the pillowcases on the first night and bought 2 new ones for the 2nd night. One of the cups had obviously just been rinsed under cold water as it had stains on the bottom. The coffee/tea and milk were not topped up the next day and we were not given clean cups.
We stayed two nights and could not wait to get check out. Our last night we got very little sleep. On arrival home from an outing we saw a man 2 rooms down from us laying on the cement in front of his door....he was obviously very drunk (the motel seemed to be filled with mine workers). Not long after we turned off our light (around midnight) we heard very loud talking which eventually turned into an argument with much foul language. This went on and on for quite some time.
The only good thing about this motel room is that the airconditoner was very quiet.
We have done a lot of travelling all over the world and have come to the conclusion that this motel had to be the worst we have ever stayed in. We would truly recommend never to stay there if you want to enjoy your stay in lovely Mackay. (Date of experience: Nov, 2011 )
