Located in Gippsland, just 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne, Mt Baw Baw prides itself as the most accessible downhill alpine resort in Australia. A popular destination for families and adventure seekers, Mt Baw Baw is a small fun resort with good quality snowfields for beginners and intermediate skiers and boarders.
Mt Baw Baw has around 30 hectares of ski runs, with six ski tows that service the mountain. As well as the ski fields, Mt Baw Baw also has a large expanse of cross-country ski trails that connect to other areas within the Baw Baw plateau including Mt St Gwinear, Mt St Phillack and the Alpine Walking Trail. Baw Baw is a great place for learner skiers, with lots of gentle runs perfect for honing ski skills. Lessons are available on the mountain through Mt Baw Baw’s Snowsports School. The ‘Kirstie Kids Club’ endorsed by Olympic aerial skier Kirstie Marshall, offers children the chance to learn to ski or snowboard in a fun and safe environment.
Mount Baw Baw also features a number of Progression Parks around the mountain for those who wish to practice their terrain park skills. Facilities include a Competition Staircase, Rainbow Rails, a Timber Cannon Box, Kickers, Butter Boxes, Bonks and Jibs! Throughout the season, Mt Baw Baw features a number of freestyle events and competitions with prominent entries from Australia and overseas. Other events throughout the ski season for the whole family to enjoy include the Toboggan Championships, Snowman Making Competition and Christmas in July.
The resort village of Mt Baw Baw sits at the base of the mountain and offers ski-in ski-out access. Facilities in the village include a variety of dining options, retail store, and visitor centre. New facilities for 2010 include a Wellbeing Centre with sauna, massage, facilities, yoga and a Rock Spa Pool. Accommodation on the mountain includes lodge, cabin, hotel and backpacker options for all budgets. Several off-mountain accommodation options are also available at the nearby village of Tanjil Bren.
Mt Baw Baw offers superb value skiing, with lift tickets for the 2010 season starting at $59 for adults, $39 for children, and $49 for students.
