Thredbo is one of the best known ski resorts in Australia. Situated in the NSW Snowy Mountains, Thredbo sits at the base of Mt Crackenback, in Mount Kosciuszko National Park. Widely considered to be the best resort in Australia, Thredbo has Australia’s greatest vertical at 621 metres, and the country’s longest ski runs when the mountain is fully covered by snow. With over 700,000 visitors anually, Thredbo is a very popular alpine resort, easily accessible from both Canberra and Sydney.
With runs for all abilities, Thredbo is a popular ski resort for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with the majority of the runs (67%) suited to intermediate skiers. Thredbo also features a number of terrain parks for all abilities, from ‘Wombat World’ for the kids, to the ‘Advanced Park’, as well as a ridercross. New for 2010, Thredbo welcomes the Monster Bagjump - a huge air-filled cushion for experienced riders to practice their jumps, spins and flips with confidence. Every Thursday and Saturday night during July and August, the resort stays open late for twilight riding until 7pm, which is a novel experience for many visitors. Thredbo resort has 14 lifts and over 50 ski runs. More than 65 hectares of trails is covered by the most advanced snow-making facilities in the southern hemisphere, which allows most the mountain to be used most the time, even in a bad season.
When skiing at Thredbo, you can enjoy a tasty lunch, a warming hot chocolate, or a well-deserved beer, with several cafes and restaurant open on the mountain. Take a well-deserved break, kick back and enjoy the beautiful alpine scenery.
Thredbo was modelled on a European ski town, with on-snow accommodation and a charming alpine village atmosphere. Thredbo village sits at the base of the resort, and has great facilities including a world-class leisure centre, great shopping, and a wide range of dining options and nightlife. Thredbo has over 2,500 car park spaces for visitors, and most accommodations also have parking available. Getting around in the resort is easy, with a free shuttle bus operating throughout the village, till late. Accommodation in Thredbo village tends towards the more luxury apartment end of the market, with some budget style ski lodging available in the village. Alternatively, more budget accommodation can be found in nearby Jindabyne, which is just a 20 minute drive from Thredbo.
