A tourist who fell asleep on an airport baggage belt in Rome was only discovered when he travelled through an X-ray scanner.
The 36-year-old from Norway arrived at Fiumicino airport for his flight back to Oslo, but on finding the check-in desk unmanned, apparently decided to have a rest on the baggage conveyor, UK publication The Telegraph reports.
A Fiumicino airport police officer told the Telegraph incidents involving "drunks or people with psychological problems" happen about once a year.
Another officer told Italian publication La Repubblica: "It's impossible to avoid a situation like this if there's no employee at the check-in desk."Given his exposure to powerful X-rays, police first took him to hospital for an examination before reporting him to prosecutors in Civitavecchia.
