Have to agree with Van Bautista. McLaren Vale area is in my opinion so much better than Barossa and Clare Valley. Don't get me wrong - they are good too but if you want a nice weekend of wine tasting and local produce McLaren Vale is the best. The Willunga markets on a Saturday are awesome and the nearby beaches are an added bonus and only 1/2 hr south of Adelaide.
ReplyPlease add to your "top 10 gourmet destinations" the semi-rural town of MCLAREN VALE about 30 minutes south of Adelaide via the expressway. McLaren Vale and its peripheries McLaren Flat, Blewett Springs, including Willunga boast of around 60 boutique and recognized national wineries, including Hardy's, Hamilton, Rosemount, Wirra Wirra, Scarpantoni, Tatachilla, Woodstock & others. The Shiraz produced here has won international acclaim. Its restaurants boast of gourmet style cooking using local produce including King George whiting and most of the wineries have their own special cafes and eateries.
