One in five travellers miss their flight and men are most likely to fail to catch the plane on time, according to a survey of international travellers conducted by leading flight comparison site Skyscanner.

Almost a quarter of respondents made it through security with time to spare but still failed to board on time. Of those, 12% missed their flight being announced, 5% got carried away in bars, restaurants and duty free shopping and 3% failed to make the flight after not leaving enough time to get to the departure gate.
Although men are most likely to miss their flight, they are most willing to get creative in order to catch a free transfer to another flight, and are more successful at it than women.
Results show almost half of men will try to charm their way onto the next available flight with an improvised excuse of why they are late, with one in five claiming it worked. This compared to one in three women that try it, with only 14% saying it worked.
Dave Boyte, Skyscanner Market Development Manager for Australia says,
"Changing flights after you've missed one can be very expensive, so travellers beware. Keep your eyes and ears open at all times. Triple check your flight details before you travel, listen out for announcements and don't get too boozy before you board."

I left Ubon on Monday with two nights in BKK, this is first night..."But you caught the overnight train!!" hmm only 10min to boarding, crap missed it. Turn to drinking buddy, the off duty Qantas Ground engineer, can you help? Standby.. phone calls, OK same flight tomorrow night, no fee. 'Perhaps we should we partake of another Chang or two?'.. Sorry Greg
ReplyWith 25 years of flying to and from work (14 domestically & 11 internationally) I've only ever miss two flights of my own accord. Both times involved having one too many and not paying enough attention to the boarding announcements. Both times I was able to talk my way onto the next flight (My luck will run out one day). Countless missed and delayed flights due to a million different reasons that had nothing to do with me.
ReplyMy Qantas flight from Canberra to Sydney arrived in Sydney 45 minutes late and I missed my connecting Virgin Airlines flight to Hervey Bay. I had to wait in Sydney for 24 hours for the very next Virgin flight to Hervey Bay. No apology or help from Qantas!
ReplyYou must be a mug to shop at the Duty Free, they are more expensive than ordinary shops. Their name is bovine copros.
