Spring has come and with the warm weather a plethora of events and festivals around the country. With plenty to choose from throughout September, we've picked out a few highlights you won't want to miss.
Red Earth Arts Festival
6 - 10 September
Western Australia’s Pilbara will host the Red Earth Arts Festival (REAF), showcasing over 20 performances, activities and workshops from both national and international acts including Birds of Tokyo, San Cisco and the Fringe World Tent.
7 - 28 September
This huge showcase of more than 83 events will paint Brisbane city pink and draw huge crowds to live performances of music, theatre, dance, comedy, opera, circus and more. South Bank will house the Spiegeltent with indie-acts, art installations, free live music and pop-up bars.
Perth Fashion Festival
11 - 16 September 2013
In its fourteenth year running, this year’s Perth Fashion Festival will attract fashionistas from around the world to a series of fashion events, world-class runway shows, styling workshops, fashion lunches and more.
12 – 14 September 2013
It’s not too late to hit up the snowfields, and with the first ever Efterski Festival kicking off this month you’ve got good reason to get out of the city. Thredbo will be home to this inaugural event, bringing together world-class winter sports with a huge line up of live bands and DJ’s for a week of big air and big beats. Spending each day out on the mountain, guests will be treated to a series of events including the Rhythm Skim Showdown as well as the biggest freeski event in the country, the Toyota One Hit Wonder Big Air. This event will see local and international professional skiers battle it out to kick-start their AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals World Tour) points tally.
Melbourne Fringe Festival
18 September - 6 October
The annual Melbourne Fringe Festival showcases international and domestic artists and entertainers from around the world from a variety of mediums. Watch the very best in cabaret, comedy, dance, live art, music, and performing and visual arts at multiple locations with special events lined up throughout the festival.
20 - 27 September 2013
WA Outback accommodation
An epic off-road rally event, the Australasian Safari takes on more than 4,000km of rough terrain between Perth and Kalgoorlie in just 7 days. One of the most challenging motor events in the world, this year’s Safari will attract more than 100 of the world’s best off-road drivers and motorbike riders.
Spring Racing Festival
21 September – 24 November
Three months of spring racing fever kicks off in Melbourne from mid-September, showcasing horse racing, world-class fashion shows and loads of entertainment. Check the website for the full list of races, parties and fashion events.
Gig guide spotlight
MT WARNING East Coast Tour
10 – 13 September
It’s been a busy few months for Byron Bay based outfit MT Warning, launching new tracks, playing overseas gigs and now kicking off an east coast tour. Mikey Bee’s addictive vocals combined with the band’s fusion of alternative rock, electronic and post-rock influences make for a phenomenal live show not to be missed. The tour will come to the Workers Club in Melbourne, Brighton Up in Sydney, Big Sound in Brisbane, and the Great Northern in Byron Bay.
