The Clare Valley Wine Region, in the Mount Lofty Ranges just north of Adelaide, is one of South Australia’s most celebrated wine producing regions; as famous for its fine food as for its superior full-bodied reds and crisp whites.

Established early in the 1800's by some early pioneers, most vineyards and wineries are centred around the towns of Leasingham, Clare, Auburn, Watervale, Sevenhill, and Penwortham.

Today, the region is home to many boutique wineries and large company vineyards. These vineyards have shown their consistency from producing port and sherry through the 1940's, to the table wines that the consumer market is demanding today.

It's just an hour and a half north of Adelaide, but you might as well be a world away. With a rich cultural tapestry dating back 160 years and more than 35 cellar doors, the Clare Valley is perfect for holidays where you want to immerse yourself in the finer things in life.

Match fine Clare Valley wine with delicious dining in restaurants right at the cellar door. You can't really go wrong, but a few of the best include Skillogalee, with its sensational regional flavours; the courtyard dining of Neagles Rock; and seafood of Salt'n'Vines Bar & Bistro at Kirihill Estates.

The Clare Valley Wine Region is mainly cool all year round with low rainfall. Irrigation systems have made it possible for vines to be grown in the area. The soil and climatic conditions vary throughout the region due to the differing altitudes between the ranges and the valley. The yellow/red podsolic soil is found on the slopes, whereas the brown/black soils are found on the valley floor.

The Clare Valley Wine Region is most renowned for its excellence in Riesling and Shiraz.
