Altona is approximately 13km south west from Melbourne and is located on Port Phillip Bay. There are some excellent park and recreation areas along the foreshore and Altona Beach is one of only 2 in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Also worth exploring are the environmental conservation areas and wetlands, which run along Port Phillip Bay.

The main street in Altona has a buzzing atmosphere with cafes, restaurants and shops.

Places worth visiting are:

Point Cook Homestead - c.1857 - Historic homestead, picturesque picnic in the grounds overlook the bay and old bluestone barns that were once home of the first Caulfield Cup winner, Newminster.

RAAF Museum in Point Cook, just 15 minutes drive from Altona has memorabilia, artifacts and state of the art multi-media technology and displays.

The Esplanade - shallow waters provide ideal conditions for kite-surfing all year round.
