Fear that the world is going to end on December 21 has sparked a surge in flight bookings to two destinations.

Flight comparison website Skyscanner says believers of the Mayan prophecy are heading to two small villages – one in France and one in Turkey – believed to be safe from Armageddon, the Telegraph reports.

Bugarach in the south of France and Sirince, in the Turkish province of Izmir, have been touted as the places to be to avoid catastrophe.

Skyscanner says flight searches to the south of France for the week leading up to December 21 increased by 41 percent from the previous week.

Likewise, searches for one-way flights from the UK to Sirince have jumped 30 percent.

Skyscanner’s Victoria Bailie says: “We were surprised to see how big an increase there has been in searches for flights to the South of France and to Izmir in Turkey leading up to the 21st December: the date of the Mayan prophecy.”

Bugarach, a French farming village, has attracted fame from doomsday disciples claiming aliens will come out of a ‘spaceship garage’ in the town’s Pic de Bugarach mountain and take people out of harm’s way.

Sirince, not far from the ancient Greek city of Ephesus, is believed by some to be close to where the Virgin Mary ascended to heaven.

For that reason the town is thought to have an energy that could save people from the world’s end.

It has already seen a tourism boom because of the predictions, and an influx of more than 60,000 visitors is anticipated at the village of just 600.

Do you believe the world is going to end?

I have a date for the Mayan's to predict the end of the world, Friday 13 June 2014 cause that is a full moon also, it will scare so many people, you will get twice as many idiots believing you, so many people hate Friday 13th and are paranoid and combine that with a full moon it will be great to see how many will think the world will end.

Everyday 156,000 people die world wide (that is 108 every minute) so today the 21st Dec will be the end of the world for them, but as for the other several billion people it will be just another day like yesterday and the day before.

Today is the 22nd of Dec and I am still here on planet earth, the world hasn't ended yet and it won't, so what day will the Mayan idiots choose for the end of the world, this is the 4th date they have predicted the world will end, I hope all those people who bought a one way ticket to the so called safe place have to pay 10 times the air fare to get home, that will teach them a lesson not to believe in all the Mayan #$%$

The Mayans do NOT say the world is going to end december 21st. What they do say is that this age will end and a new age will begin. It's only the MSM deliberately misreporting the mayans,to mislead the public & cause a bit more confusion & fear folks. The powers that were are on the way out & they are scared! True freedom, peace, abundance is on the way. Nothing to fear folks,no catastrophic disasters or end of the world either. The beginning is near:)

Too many times the WORLD has not come to an end. It probably never will, but if it does one day in the future, what's the point of trying to save one's skin. Those who are most afraid will most certainly have gone to the wrong place and get the Armageddon they have feared so much. I think being born into this sick "world" is more frightening than to go back to where we came from. Cheer up folks, attract and live the little joys of LIFE!!!

There are many different time zones around the world, so when will it start and where, Australia is 16 hours ahead of the USA and 10 hours ahead of the UK, so does that mean we will be destroyed before them, and NZ is 2 hours ahead of Brisbane, so they will be destroyed before us, wake up you MAYAN idiots and get a life.
