For the bleary eyed commuters aboard London's Metropolitan line, the last person they’d expect to see sitting on the seat opposite them is a member of the British Royal Family.

But early Wednesday morning, that's exactly what happened.

As part of celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall hopped aboard a Metropolitan train line from Farringdon to King's Cross.

Though it was a rather brief trip, just 3 minutes according to The Telegraph, the elation experienced by Prince Charles was obvious. It was reportedly his first time on the tube in nearly 30 years.

When the duo disembarked at King's Cross Station, they stopped to check out Platform 9 3/4 (from Harry Potter), which became a permanent fixture in the New Western Departures Concourse in March 2012.

Despite their lack of experience, the pair managed to figure out how to swipe their "Oyster" fare cards in the turnstile, though we doubt they had to purchase the card themselves.
