Afraid of heights? You might want to look away now.
The brand new Titlis Cliff Walk, said to be the highest suspension bridge in Europe, is just one metre wide and stretches out over a 500 metre abyss.Built by a Swiss cable car company, the remarkable bridge was launched on Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Engelberg-Gerschnialp cableway.
Due to its rather unusual location, the attraction has to withstand not only strong winds, but also heavy snow accumulations. Builders say the bridge has been crafted to last for 1,000 years.Swaying at 10,000ft above sea level, it allows visitors to enjoy phenomenal views of the surrounding mountains and even glimpse parts of Italy. It's impossible to fall from the bridge.
Titlis Cliff Walk is an addition to the existing attractions on Titlis, which include the glacier park, snowtubing, glacier trail, glacier cave, photo studio, watch shop and numerous restaurants.
Located in central Switzerland near Engelberg, Mount Titlis is a popular winter sports destination. Officials believe the bridge will be a popular destination during the warmer months.
